UVIGO has about 260 research groups, with a significant scientific production in the form of doctoral theses, publications, conference communications and registered patents. In the last three years UVIGO has been involved in more than 950 projects; and over the last decade, research groups at UVIGO have been involved in more than 50 European Projects. Recently, the project Campus do Mar, led by UVIGO, and with the University of Santiago de Compostela, University of A Coruña, CSIC (Spanish National Research Council) and IEO (Spanish Institute of Oceanography), has been awarded the International Excellence in the European Regional Area, a honour granted by the Spanish Ministry of Education.

Temporal and spatial analysis of intentional forest fires in Galicia, Spain. 2009 2012 Development of efficient forest fire policies requires an understanding of the underlying reasons behind forest fire ignitions. The project aims to understand the spatial and temporal behaviour of deliberate caused forest fires, and to assess the risk of forest fire occurrence as a function of natural and socioeconomic variables.
